My Siteki Walks

In 2008 I was privileged to go and serve the people of the beautiful country of Swaziland Africa, which is sadly an aids stricken and impoverished land. In so many ways it brought me salvation...

We would follow the Global school children to their homes, often walking many miles. They never complained.

i wrote this after one of those walks...

My Siteki Walks

we walk far

we sit on mats

our host sits on rocks with bare dirty feet, his pants are dirty, he's very quiet

we lean on a wooden structure, it holds corn

we sit in the shade

the children find shade and are patient and sit and wait, never rude

there is a gentle breeze , a beautiful hillside and blue sky

the mother is sick

the daughter we interview , so shy, she's holding a pack of skittles i gave her,

we are sitting on a mat together

the mother wears a skirt and dusty clogs, she too is dirty, she wears a pretty black blouse,

her hair hidden by a native scarf, we pray for her

there is a fence of narrow sticks, the rooster crows in the distance, the sky is beautiful blue,

the birds sing

it is peaceful here in this place

across the way is a mango and cabbage farm

Pumsile is sitting on the mat too, the families are glad the head teacher visits their homes,

she is offered water to drink from a glass

her shoes are off, she has walked far these last few days, there are holes in her socks

some homesteads poor, but rich

some homesteads poor, sick, unattended, dirty, hopeless

chickens everywhere, the little ones crawl up in our laps

talking with the families, aunt, grandmother, uncle, rarely parents and rarely both alive

today a mother accepted Jesus

hope has come

she is Thembinkosi's mother, he has become my friend, as we walked together

God is here

beautiful children

serving together
