God isn’t the God they told you about. He isn’t out to destroy you, demean you, embarrass you, or kick you out. Jesus went to a lot of trouble to give us stories that are surprising and profound. Those are stories of love, joy, and welcome. Are you sure? Yeah, I’m sure. I’ve gone to the other side of silence and checked it out, and he told me to tell you.
